Daisy dress with cut-out detail

Although I like mainstream fashion, I don’t like to be exactly the same as everyone else. Being a student I do wear high-street but I won’t buy obvious clothes that you are bound to see half the girls wearing. Quite often in that case, I will say I like something but not buy it for that reason and with my predictions I know I will only end up spending something I will not wear, for being the same as everyone else.

An example of this being the cut out dresses. They are lovely, the little cut-out detail at the ribs adding a lot to a dress which may be a tight, body-con style or more of a skater dress. As much as I love them, I didn’t want to go out and find most of the girls out wearing variations of the same dress. However I found a solution, Dorothy Perkins concessionrange Lila had a really cute one. A little different being navy and patterned with daisies, the dress had the same concept of cut-out detail to the waist. I liked it as well as most of the cut-out dresses are tight this has a bit more of a fifties feel with a full, circle skirt. The high neck fits the style well, being short and with the cut-outs- my new favourite summer dress perfect for a night out or dressing down with a casual pair of sandals.

New wedges

Yes I will hold my hands up I am supposed to be saving but these wedges were too hard to resist.

This branded shoe from Dorothy Perkins is brilliant. I cannot wait to wear it in the summer for a barbeque, party, shopping trip or even night out. There are perfect as you can dress them up or down. Having the platform and wedge heel means despite the height there are both comfortable and easy to walk in. Of course, I do love these that are a little different and I love that the heel has the white, beige and straw detail but the colours are neutral so I’m not limited to what colour clothes I can wear.

CJG Shoes

Chloe Green, daughter of Topshop owner Philip Green has taken her love for shoes to new heights (well excuse the pun but they are all pretty high). Launching her new shoe collection, on 17th May as a concession stand in Topshop’s Oxford Circus store, Topshop online and her personal Green website the shoe collection looks set to be a huge success.

The obvious link to her surname and exclusiveness of the red sole of Luoboutin’s, the shoes all have a signature green sole. The debut, summer range named CJG; after her full name Chloe Jade (another link to the colour of the sole) Green, keeps that personal connection as each shoe is named after a close family member or friend.

Wow! Image courtesy of Chloe Green’s twitter page.

The collection ranges from sparkling peep toes, flashy wedges and strappy, caged-style sandals. The range said to have been inspired by illustrations of hearts, roses, skulls and anchors takes a pretty approach to a gothic edge: shaded innocence.

The best bikini buys...

Yes, this post may be a bit eager for the summer; considering the recent rainfall- I even heard on the news last week “despite the draught, flood warnings have been issued”, but I want to look ahead to the summer. So here’s a little look at some beautiful bikini’s.

·         Underwater print halter bikini (top £20, bottom £14 both from Asos). Love the design of this one and not too expensive.
·         Parrot print bikini with plaited ties (top £14, bottom £9 both from Dorothy Perkins). I really like the different print and plaited ties on this bikini. It is 'cleavage enhanced' so those will less bust may want this one- the only down side with this one is that it has a lot of padding in it- I don't know if when you get in the pool it will soak up all the water.
·         White bead embellished bikini (top £26, bottom £ both from River Island). This is a cute bikini; again it is a little different with the braided style ties. Being white in colour, wear at the end of your holiday to flaunt your tan- the white will make you look in more tanned!
·         Gold scalloped egde bikini (£195 for bikini top and bottom Chloe). This is such a beautiful bikini although so is the price tag. Its beautifully simplistic, but I absolutely love it for that.
·         Black petal bandeau bikini (top and bottom £26, Topshop). Another cute design with playful ruffles and removable straps. Just be warned buying online means you have to buy both the same size top and bottom unless instore.

I do like the fifties style retro bikini’s that have a longer length to the top; although I wouldn’t wear it as a bikini because I wouldn’t want that tan line and would probably wear one with a plain chiffon blouse as a colourful bra. And although I do like bikini’s with support, I don’t think you should look like you have just stripped under to your undies on the beach. So those were my best buys.

Jewellery... cute cuffs

Now what girl doesn’t love a bit of bling? I will admit I do love jewellery; mainly bangles and bracelets as I have rings and a necklace I wear all the time that have sentimental value although I am not a very good jewellery shopper I seem to get a bit bored with costume jewellery shopping. But there have been some pieces that have really caught my eye recently….

Firstly this Brass and Swarovski-crystal cuff from Dannijo is amazing. The detail on the cuff is beautiful and the crystals would be enough to dazzle an outfit with a bit of sparkle but the bright colours set it in stone that this is a stunning item. The cuff would set you back £283 but I think it’s definitely well-worth it.
Renown for her signature fluorescent necklaces and cuffs, Bex Rox’s jewellery is beautifully colourful. Her cuffs fasten with her usual magnetic clasp engraved with her name. Again these pieces are bright; I suppose I am craving a bit of colour after the winter but she even has a ring that is made with neon powder that actually sparkles when you hold it up to the light.

Make a sophisciated statement with the Emilio Pucci cuff of orange plexiglass and gold-plated metal. The orange would brighten an outfit and the gold keeps the classic appeal; so a timeless piece for merely £435.

H&M Conscious Fashion Collection

There have been many debates about the cycle of fashion and the fast-pace consumerism that leads to waste. There has also been criticism towards fashion over the impact on the environment, traders and moral, social and ethical issues. There have been many attempts to oppose this; vintage shopping, ethical designing and more sustainable sources.

The highs-street store H&M have recently launched the Conscious Collection in stores. Being conscious the collection; featuring a mix of lace shorts, full-length maxi’s and tops in neon and prints for 2012 trends, are all made from sustainable sources.

And even though its eco-friendly the fashion is not sacrificed. I was quite surprised when I found a cute pair of pastel pink shorts with a crochet lace covering and ties that have skulls detail on them. Keeping H&M’s ethos of low prices the range is a bargain.

May

It’s May already; where is this year going? So here are a few little May cheeky fashion dates for you:

·         Audrey Hepburn born May 4 1929.
·         Naomi Campbell was born on May 22 1970.
·         Henry Holland was born on May 26 1983.
·         2008 Sex and the City (film) was premiered.
·         In 1938 May 4 Prince Louis Ferdinand married Kira Kirillovna (there was three ceremonies and three different dresses including an Elsa Schiaparelli and possibly a custom-made Chanel).

Vivienne Westwood's Jubilee Collection

When you think of Britain, you think fish and chips, ability to queue, narrow mindedness, the royal family and Vivienne Westwood. And so it only appropriate that Vivienne Westwood launches a capsule collection to mark the Jubilee; celebrating 60 years of her reign.

The Queen of British design, Westwood frequently uses typical British shapes, designs, Union Jack and crown motifs designed the collection inspired by gowns that Her Majesty has previously worn.

The range of ten dresses and four pairs of earrings will launch in May is beautiful with Union Jack colours, corseted styles and full-length dresses in silks, satins and tafetta. My favourite from the collection is the stunning full-length dress in Union Jack print that has aged effect; a cowl neck, rouched shoulders and flattering draped style it is amazing and not tacky being Union Jack at all as it Westwood.

Although being inspired by royalty and designed by fashion royalty it comes with the matching price tag- prices range from £650 to £3,000.
