Fashion Olympics

Nine of the most iconic British supermodels in the most iconic British fashion designers- what to say but STUNNING?!

The shoot stars in Vogue UK’s September issue named ‘Midas Touch’. The amazing catwalk queen Kate Moss wore Alexander McQueen, as did Naomi Campbell. Stella Tennant wore Christopher Kane, Lily Cole in Erdem, Karen Elson in Burberry, Jourdan Dunn in Jonathon Saunders and Stephen Jones, Georgia May Jagger in Victoria Beckham, Lily Donaldson in Vivienne Westwood and the gorgeous David Gandy in Paul Smith. Fashion is a major part of British culture; the Union Jack catwalk at the Closing Ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics even saw a tribute to Alexander McQueen.

“How great to celebrate everything that's wonderful about Britain and part of that is fashion." Lucinda Chambers.

And of course, the Spice Girls put a bit of ‘spice’ into the Closing Ceremony with the beautiful Victoria Beckham in Giles Deacon.

TEAM GB

Massive congratulations are in order for Team GB…  Feeling very patriotic right now and there’s reason to be; as the host nation we secured third place on the overall league table, getting 30 per cent more medals than those won at Beijing. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!

Tattoo.... UNBREAKABLE

Tattoos can be the most permanent pieces of artwork- completely amazing and some so unique. I absolutely love ones that have a lot of personal meaning- if you are going to go through with it I think they are best that way.

On holiday, I actually said that I don’t think I would ever get one as I didn’t have one with enough meaning and couldn’t picture it on me. If you had said to me then, that three weeks on I would have my first inking I wouldn’t have believed you. But then how life changes….

I am so happy with it, thank you Tom from Urban Ink in Brentwood Essex. I got ‘unbreakable’ tattooed to my ribs- of course it has a lot of meaning to me and I was actually surprised it didn’t hurt as much as expected, although I wouldn’t say the numbing cream worked exactly!

Faux leather style leggings

My current love is my false leather leggings. I am a dresses and skirts girl, but recently I have a lot of tops and blouses I love but find myself wearing the same skirt with or skinny jeans- which sometimes just isn’t dressy enough. Therefore I treated myself, naughty I know especially as it was just before my holiday, to a pair of faux leather style leggings.

Being from a high-street store I was a little dubious they would look cheap or wear easily. But they have been great; they fit well, go with so much and they’ve taken over my jeans (I’m not a huge fan of wearing jeans so I’m quite happy about this). They are wet-look in more of a muted way than the tacky PVC style and being black they slim you down too- Olivia Newton-John eat your heart out!!

Sportswear

The Olympics you cannot escape it at the moment; causing traffic, constant talk about it on the television and radio and even union jack prints in every shop. It’s no wonder that fashion follows the patriotism with sportswear. Stella McCartney teamed up with Adidas to create the Great Britain Olympic kits; but you don’t have to wear tracksuits to be sporty. Take a bit of body-con, metallic prints, running shorts and caged style heels scores gold in the style stakes.

With the thought of the 2012 Olympics coming, sportswear has been at the forefront of fashion for a while. Running shorts have been transformed into stunning going out wear- with lace detail and patterns coming first. With plenty of metallic colours and embellishment about, you’ll feel like you won medals.

Just remember sportswear doesn’t mean baggy trackies and muddy trainers…

Collars

Sharp tailoring in a modern way is bang on trend at the moment, update the neckline in a number of ways to modernise the collar.

Peekaboo collar

Add a contrast collar or wear a simple shirt with a jumper over the top, collar poking out. This geek-sheek look is popular at the moment; if you aren’t sure about the shirt and jumper, try a shirt where the collar is a contrasting collar. It’s a simple update for the collar; making it a little more interesting.

Embellishment

Everyone loves a little embellishment- not only people from Essex (providing it isn’t too over-the-top), so why not add it to collars. Studs, sparkles, metal clips or just metallic detail can uplift the collar; giving the smart feature a gothic edge in a feminine way.

Two-tone

To make the collar more dramatic try the two-tone method- wear a dress or shirt in one colour with the collar in a contrast colour. The high-street loves this one- so you won’t find it hard to find; it seems to be the pretty way to update the neckline.

Jewellery and additional collars

For a very girly way to add neckline detail, go for a jewellery collar. They look great with round, high-necked tops (peplum ones etc) or dresses. Most high-street stores do their own version of this, but they tend to be beaded in the collar shape. If you are feeling adventurous and fancy the two-tone why not add your own collar. You can buy these from more bespoke boutiques (such as Her Curious Nature), the internet or get an old shirt and cut the collar. This gives the outfit a different dimension especially as most of the high-street contrast colours seem to be black you can change the collar and change your whole outfit. It can instantly fit the weather- because let’s be honest the British weather changes so much it’s hard to keep up, mood or tone of the outfit.

August

Having been on holiday (amazing going from rainy England to heat-wave hit Cyprus) and then had a lot going on I’ve found it difficult to blog. However, the thought of August being upon us- over half way through 2012 now pushed me back into this- so I aim to get back to blogging as much as possible I promise. Here’s some fashion history to start of the month:

·         Coco Chanel born 19th August 1883.
·         Andy Warhol born on 6th August 1928.
·         Louis Vuitton born on 4th August 1821.
·         Blake Lively born on August 25 1987.
·         Betsey Johnson born August 10 1942.
·         Tom Ford born August 27 1961.
·         American model Karlie Kloss born on August 3 1992.
·         Although the 2012 games started July 25, they continue throughout August- Stella McCartney worked with lead sponsor Adidas to create the Great Britain’s team kit and the patriotic atmosphere continues to inspire the fashion.

August wish-list

Over halfway through the year now- as crazy as that sounds, so much has now happened in my life in that time it hardly seems surprising. Here's August's wish-list for the hard-up student during the summer months:

·         Black chiffon metal collar top- Dorothy Perkins, £32.
Perfect smart-casual top- dress up for a night out or team with skinnies for a little more casual.
·         Black sleeveless studded shirt- River Island, £20.
Giving smart a rebellious edge in a different way- absolutely love this bargain shirt.
·         MOTO Acid denim playsuit- Topshop, £35.
The perfect playsuit for the party holiday, or casual day shopping in those hot, hot summer months we are supposed to have.
·         MOTO khaki studded hot-pants- Topshop, £35.
These  hot-pants are classic festival wear teamed with wellies (and possibly a rain-mac depending on the weather).
·         Fan embellished vest- MissSelfridge, £45.
With this little beaded number a night-out would look effortless- amazing with a tan.
·         Decorapump high heels- Christian Louboutin, £2,575.
All Louboutin shoes are amazing but these studded, gem beauties are in another league.
