Peekaboo collar
Add a contrast collar or wear a
simple shirt with a jumper over the top, collar poking out. This geek-sheek
look is popular at the moment; if you aren’t sure about the shirt and jumper,
try a shirt where the collar is a contrasting collar. It’s a simple update for
the collar; making it a little more interesting.
Embellishment
Everyone loves a little
embellishment- not only people from Essex (providing it isn’t too
over-the-top), so why not add it to collars. Studs, sparkles, metal clips or
just metallic detail can uplift the collar; giving the smart feature a gothic
edge in a feminine way.
Two-tone
To make the collar more dramatic try
the two-tone method- wear a dress or shirt in one colour with the collar in a
contrast colour. The high-street loves this one- so you won’t find it hard to
find; it seems to be the pretty way to update the neckline.
For a very girly way to add neckline
detail, go for a jewellery collar. They look great with round, high-necked tops
(peplum ones etc) or dresses. Most high-street stores do their own version of
this, but they tend to be beaded in the collar shape. If you are feeling adventurous
and fancy the two-tone why not add your own collar. You can buy these from more
bespoke boutiques (such as Her Curious Nature), the internet or get an old
shirt and cut the collar. This gives the outfit a different dimension especially
as most of the high-street contrast colours seem to be black you can change the
collar and change your whole outfit. It can instantly fit the weather- because let’s
be honest the British weather changes so much it’s hard to keep up, mood or
tone of the outfit.
