Dress for success

With the release of the film ‘The Iron Lady’ about one of the most powerful women of the British Government Margaret Thatcher; the eighties fashion of power dressing has been reborn.

Coco Chanel is one of the designers known for revolutionising women’s fashion to give them more freedom in their clothing. In the years to come as their independence grew so the women’s role was not restricted to just a house wife and mother; careers and women in the workplace become more acceptable.

During the eighties the tailored look was very popular; influenced by the public’s favourite TV programmes Dynasty and Dallas, the Nations sweetheart Princess Diana and the yuppies (the nickname of the Young and Professionals).

Feminine fashion meets tailoring is the classic power dressing. And with pencil skirts still being a favourite; power dressing remains the classic look. With sharp, clean lines and silhouettes being common on many catwalks; peplums and the power dressing has been updated for your 2012 wardrobes. A simple blazer and smart dress brings power dressing to the streets or a tight, pencil skirt and blouse as Emma Watson wore recently on the red carpet.

So power your wardrobes up to storm to success...
