National TV Awards 2012, London O2.

With winners from I’m a Celebrity to Jonathon Ross and Gary Barlow, the national TV awards at the O2 were the envy of many.

Yet it was the outfits that stole my concentration.

Firstly X Factor winners Little Mix rocked the National TV Awards Red Carpet in ripped leggings and micro miniskirts; continuing their style they grew during the live shows. The girls later swapped their heels (and Jeffery Campbell’s) for brogues and flats to perform.

Secondly, The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) favourite Jess Wright proved Essex is all about the stereotype of revealing all. She wore a very elegant, demure lace dress with long sleeves and fishtail style skirt.

Another lady to wow the red carpet was Heidi Klum; who wore a beautiful bias cut black dress with a rouched sweetheart style neckline and chain detail.

Actually the most popular colour for the red carpet event was the classic black with pinks and nudes following and the occasion pop of colour aka Davina McCall.

20 years of Dazed and Confused... Making it up as we go along

Recently, I went to the ’20 years of Dazed and Confused’ Exhibition at Somerset House.

Dazed and Confused is known for its edge and underground style since Rankin and Jefferson Hack founded it in 1991. It has very famously worked with British icons Vivienne Westwood and Kate Moss.

My favourite images have to be the shots of Kate Moss from the first decade of Dazed and Confused and the images of Theo Adams in the latest era of Dazed and Confused. I particularly like the image of Theo shot by Selve Sundsbo for the London’s Yoth feature in February 2008.

Dorothy Perkins heeled boots...

My most recent little buy is the above boots from Dorothy Perkins and I am so in love with them!!! These gorgeous suede tan boots have a fur lined collar and lace up at the front. The cone style heel is easy to walk despite being a fair size. But I absolutely love them and they go so well with so much…. Teamed with jeans they give casual a sense of glamour or with a cute little dress a different edge.

Aztec

Aztec print was in everyone’s wardrobes this summer but it is still here. It fills many a casual section in many shops alike; including Urban Outfitters range of Aztec print leggings.

Recently, I brought a River Island Aztec print tube skirt in a black and grey/white colour. Urban outfitters have a beautiful green version too; this is because it is a bit more unusual so you can hit the trend without blurring into the crowd.

The Aztec print brings a sense of boho luxury to style and I especially love the knitted, boyfriend cardigans or poncho’s perfect teamed with jeans and boots on a wintery day- and will even be great and warm with the snow that could possibly come our way.

Vogue

The world’s most influential and well-known fashion magazine… Of course you know I’m talking about Vogue.

Some call it the fashion bible; scour the website daily perhaps even hourly to find the latest fashion news but there is no doubt that Vogue is extremely popular worldwide. British Vogue deemed to be one of the most commercial of the Vogue magazines is also the most profitable edition of Vogue apart from US Vogue.

It was in 1916 that Conde Nast spread the publication overseas to Britain. The cover of the first British Vogue edition of September 1916 looks so different to today’s editions; illustrated by Helen Thurlow for Elspeth Champcommunal (the 1916 editor).

Above: The 1916 cover of Vogue.

Above: Februarys edition of Britsh Vogue with model Arizona Muse as the cover star and its nice to see the cover image a smiley one.

And in comparison to today’s price of £4.10, one shilling is a bit different. Just shows how time and fashion changes.

January 23rd

The date of battles, protests, deaths and births.

On this day in history, Julien MacDonald announced he would to leave Givenchy when his contract expired in April 2004; to be succeeded by their current Creative Director Riccardo Tisci and in 2008 Heath Ledger was discovered as dead.

Yet 23rd January is also celebrated for some…

Today swedish model Elsa Sylvan celebrates her 25th birthday and looking at her schedule 2012 will be another busy and successful year for her (she will be modelling at many 2012 S/S shows including Louis Vuitton and Lanvin whilst also doing a number of advertising campaigns.)

Happy Birthday Elsa!

Topshop Treats

Once again Topshop wins the outfit style stakes in this picture.

As if Toni (left in the picture) does not need any slimming down; the lines of this dress do. The contrast of the black and tan is simplistic but works well with the curves of a woman’s body. The sleeves just down to the elbow make the dress look a bit different from the usual little black dress.

Both ladies keep their outfits simple and classic with black heels- Toni’s a sandal, block heel shoe and Abbi’s a suede stiletto court whilst the dresses show off the girls’ lovely legs.

The bright blue of Abbi’s dress really suits her skin and again the dress is simplistic but works so well. It really fits her nicely and the skirt which gathers in and is pleated at the clinched waist spreads out in a full style- bang on trend.

The fashionable blue dress is also a favourite of The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) star Amy Childs; who wore the blue one on her show ‘It’s All About Amy’ and also has a bright canary yellow version.

The business of fashion

It seems despite there being a recession, job cuts, higher rate of living and unemployment designer luxury goods are still in high demand. And quite ironically, budget brands selling cheaper goods such as Peacocks and Barratts Priceless have recently gone into administration whilst luxury houses relish in the current economy.

Burberry’s turnover in the last quarter was up by 22 per cent and Mulberry has recorded that their Christmas sales were up 35 per cent on the previous year. So what is it about our love for all things expensive? Well, I think it’s that those who have money are just splashing it!

Companies are also expecting big profits during the Olympics; where tourists will be looking to snap of souvenir designer gear like the newest mulberry bag or Links of London bracelet rather than just pictures of The London Eye.

There’s also something about a truly British design that just screams ‘buy me’. We do love to stick to our own brands and pride ourselves with houses that contain our heritage- Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood. And with Fashion Week hitting London; fashion houses will be sure to continue with their good spell.

90210

What is it about dramas of high-school life, the journey to adulthood and the privileged life of the elite we love so much? From American Pie to Gossip Girl we tune in time and time again but I do have a little love for 90210; especially the scenes with Matt Lanter who plays Liam.

My favourite fashions on set have to be Annie played by actress Shenae Grimes but I do also like Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) and Silver (Jessica Stroup).

In the main photo of series four (above) I love Silver’s outfit; mixing casual denim hot-pants with a very glam sequined top. I particularly like Shenae characters style as it is a more accessible fashion. Her cute little mini’s are perfect. I think her style is more reachable and therefore becomes more inspirational than that of the exotic glamorous Naomi Clark although she does make casual much more stylish than every-day wear.

Dress for success

With the release of the film ‘The Iron Lady’ about one of the most powerful women of the British Government Margaret Thatcher; the eighties fashion of power dressing has been reborn.

Coco Chanel is one of the designers known for revolutionising women’s fashion to give them more freedom in their clothing. In the years to come as their independence grew so the women’s role was not restricted to just a house wife and mother; careers and women in the workplace become more acceptable.

During the eighties the tailored look was very popular; influenced by the public’s favourite TV programmes Dynasty and Dallas, the Nations sweetheart Princess Diana and the yuppies (the nickname of the Young and Professionals).

Feminine fashion meets tailoring is the classic power dressing. And with pencil skirts still being a favourite; power dressing remains the classic look. With sharp, clean lines and silhouettes being common on many catwalks; peplums and the power dressing has been updated for your 2012 wardrobes. A simple blazer and smart dress brings power dressing to the streets or a tight, pencil skirt and blouse as Emma Watson wore recently on the red carpet.

So power your wardrobes up to storm to success...

Peplums

The newest fashion craze… PEPLUMS. It’s a lovely, technique adding shape to a fitted bodice that has been seen on red carpets, catwalks and even high-street stores.

The ruffled feature gives more body to your waist and in the sophisticated designs that are currently in fashion looks great. They are a great way to update the classic tailoring to give a sharp, powerful shape with feminine appeal.

In my Red Carpet Triumphs blog a few days ago, Emma Watson wore a Jason Wu top with peplums. Lots of designer collections for Spring/Summer 2012 use the element. Givenchy mixes the elegant silhouette with a gothic twist using black lace, feathers and leather and a unique twist is put on them in the Cushnie Et Ochs with peplums of a mirror, metal material. I also love the peplums of Vera Wang and Alexander McQueen’s S/S 2012 collections.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Advertising Campaigns

Mulberry’s latest Spring/Summer 2012 advertising campaigns take sweet to a whole new level. With the shoot set as a day of frolicking and fun at the seaside, the pastel colours of the collection match well with the pattern of ‘Brighton rock’ or the classic seaside ice-cream. Photographer Tim Walker captured the fun factor for Mulberry’s mainline with the models Frida Gustavsson and Lindsey Wixson.

Fendi’s mainline adverts have the look of the famous ‘le Smoking’ adverts from Yves saint Laurent. The image edited into a black and white copy was photographed by Chanel’s Head Designer legend Karl Lagerfeld. The advert features model Arizona Muse posing with a Fendi handbag as onlookers watch her in a dark, night street scene.

Finally the Roberto Cavalli advert brings three of the most successful supermodels: Naomi Campbell, Kristen McMenamy and Karen Elson with the up-and-coming star Daphne Groeneveld. The glamorous shoot mirrors the glamour of the collection. These campaigns work so well, with the model interaction and also that there is similarity between all four dresses but the air of Cavalli’s individuality as a label. Shoot by Steven Meisel. , year old Daphne Groenveld also models for Jill Stuart Spring/Summer 2012 advertising campaigns.

Louboutin clutch bag...

Christian Louboutin the name of truly amazing shoes but what about bags?

Taking classic monochrome to the next level; the Louboutin Cleo clutch bag is so pretty from the Spring/ Summer 2012 collection. In black and white you are limited to what you have to wear it with.

The black and white sequins are sewn on the Satin Crepe in a mosaique design; which I absolutely love. The bag opens at the top and the bow clasp is decorated with jewels.

Just the perfect size for a camera, purse, lippie and phone it is a great investment for those nights out in 2012.

Check it out for yourself:

Essex nights out

When many people find out I’m from Essex (well most work it out as soon as I start talking) but one of the first questions they ask is about the nights out. Have I been to the Sugarhut? Is an Essex night out so amazing?

Well the answer to both of these questions: YES! I do love a good Essex night out.

I love the town of Chelmsford- a small town near me on a student night Wednesday). This is because there are quite a lot of places you can go there. There are clubs there and bars verging on the club boundaries, like my favourite Missoula.

Essex is good because there are so many places you can go and so many places near and easy to get too; although with my prejudice Brentwood of course has to be the best.

Brentwood has changed since the reality TV show ‘The Only Way Is Essex’; many people come to experience a bit of ‘Essex’. The Slug and Lettuce in Brentwood is popular for cocktails on a Saturday night; particularly for pre-drinks before the Sugarhut which is opposite. Other bars in Brentwood are good for a more relaxed, chatty night.

I must admit I love an Essex night out and often miss it when at university. You can definitely tell the Essex boys (or even more the Brentwood lads with their chino’s, polo, shirt or denim shirt and even the sweeping haircut named the Brentwood barnet).

Red Carpet Triumphs

Emma Watson never fails to delight with her red carpet outfits. Ahead of the fashion she wows in Jason Wu from his Spring/Summer 2012 at the London premiere of ‘My week with Marilyn’ (image below). Emma gives the classical monochrome look an update mixing the Jason Wu top with a black short pencil skirt. The top which has a feathering detail nips in at Emma’s tiny waist with a black belt with bow decaration and then flairs out as the top is gathered and pleated here. She wears amazing high shoes with a thin, stiletto heel and adds a twist of leopard print with her little clutch.

Actress Freida Pinto wore an Antonio Berardi Spring/summer 2012 gown to the premiere of Immortals (again image below). The dress fitted Freida hourglass silhouette beautifully. The bodice embroidery was perfect for an occasion like a red carpet. I love the train on this dress and the contrast between the fabrics at her hips. The top of the dress at the neckline and shoulders is very unique. Frieda has kept the rest of her ensemble simple choosing a little sparkling bracelet and a very sophisticated updo.

I have a little love for the 1920s fashion; particularly the amazing flapper dresses! Camilla Belle wore a Gucci Spring/ Summer 2012 flapper dress at LACMA Art and Film Gala (once again image below). The dress looked stunning on her and the black, white and gold colour scheme looked great with her tan. I love the glittering, sparkles on the dress- actually I love it all… I WANT IT!

Kurt Geiger

In my last blog I mentioned glitter. Any glitter fans enjoy these little beauties from Miss KG (Kurt Geiger range).

They are beautiful.

Be sure to snap them up- amazing at their full price of £85 but even better as they are now in the sale for just £39!

The main shoe is a suede material and has a little buckle to secure the shoe around the ankle. The peep toe adds to the glamour of the shoe and the wedge heel ensures that the shoe is easier to walk in despite the height of it.

The gold, glittery heel is very high but being a wedge and having such a huge platform means it is easier to walk in and more comfortable- meaning that you may be able to withstand a night of dancing in them!

They are definitely on my wish list!!!

Dazzling...

Okay so admit it we all love a bit of sparkle and glitter every now and then. I know I do and I am loving the current trend of glittery nail varnish.

The new Katy Perry range with OPI nails has some amazing ones. The ‘Teenage Dream’ colour is a pinky colouring but light enough it could be worn with many colours. The beauty about this nail varnish is that it isn’t too much glitter as in over-the-top extravagant but it isn’t too little as in what’s the point of wearing glittery nail varnish if you can’t even see the sparkle.
I also like the blue glittery nail lacquer in Katy Perry’s range, named ‘Last Friday night’. I also like the fact that her nail varnishes have been named after her songs.

I certainly think I will be investing in it soon.

Brightening the winter days (or nights)

When Jones and Jones first started working with Topshop I got so excited; although I don’t think my bank balance was too impressed! I love both brands- just going into Topshop can make me a happy girl!

If you’re a fan of the mini skirt and want to be on trend with full skirts then you’ll like these little numbers from Jones and Jones.

19 year-old Toni Leader from Essex loves these too.

Combining both my favourites of Topshop and Jones and Jones in this sexy look she not only poses on trend but also brightens the wintery days.

Here she wears underwear as outerwear with this gorgeous corseted top from Topshop tucked into the Jones and Jones orange double sunray pleated skirt with a bow belt decoration. This lovely little skirt with a pretty little petticoat also comes in black and is a bargain at just £45 but I love it in this bright colour.

With the brightness of the skirt doing the talking, Toni has kept her accessories subtle; wearing New Look T-bar sandals with a high chunky heel and finishing the outfit with a little bit of sparkle with her Christmas present bracelet!

Bright colours really suit Toni and pink being one of her favourite colours this dress for sure had ‘Toni’ written all over.

The flower lace-covered bodice is fitted with a higher neck and cute little T-shirt style sleeves makes the skirt look even fuller. The skirt which is gathered and pleated at the waist and has a netted petticoat to add to the prettiness. Teamed with wedges laced up with a flowery ribbon I think she looks gorgeous once again.

Quotes

Fashion was a baby I picked up and never put down.
Good things come in small packages… Yes but so does poison.
Fashions fade, style is eternal.
A tidy room, a tidy head.
Fashion is made to become unfashionable.
You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.
Style is knowing who you are, what to say and not giving a damn.
Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what’s happening.
Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous but it is how people dress on their days off that are most intriguing.
I don't do fashion, I AM fashion.
Fashion is a statement, not a style. Fashion is fit for all sizes for all people of all ages. Fashion is an art of   personal self-expression, not an excuse to be pretty, popular or charismatic.
The woman is the most perfect doll that I have dressed with delight and admiration.
Success is most often achieved bythose who don't know that failure is inevitable
Elegance is not standing out, but being remembered.
A dress should be tight enough to show you are a woman but loose enough to prove you are a lady.
Everything happens for a reason.
To achieve great things, we must first dream.
Style is an expression of individualism mixed with charisma. Fashion is something that comes after style.
You are never fully dressed without a smile.
British fashion is self-confident and fearless. It refuses to bow to commerce, thus generating a constant flow of new ideas whilst drawing in British heritage.
Like poetry, fashion does not state anything. It merely suggests.
The dress must follow. the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress.
Personal style is accepting who you are
While clothes may not make the woman, they certainly have a strong effect on her self-confidence — which, I believe, does make the woman.
Give a girl the right shoes, she can conquer the world
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STYLE AND FASHION IS QUALUTY.
I believe in colours. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I   believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.
Don’t worry about the people in your past theres a reason they didn’t make it into your future.
You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.
Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible'
Style- all that have it share one thing: ORIGINALITY.
I believe that fashion is not about what you wear, but how you wear it. It’s more than putting outfits together and creating different looks, but a form of expression of one’s identity, creating a new outer layer of skin. I live it. I breathe it. I express it.
Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the common place, the slaves of the ordinary.

Funky nails

Some might say this person has clearly too much time on their hands…. But with fashion how can someone spend too much time???

All Barry M colours with Barry M white nail effects to finish them.

Chanel Clutch

Such a cool little design from 2010.

Remember the days of cassette players? Well Chanel has in their recent accessories collection with this little unique, retro cassette clutch.

With the button to open the clutch mirroring the eject button on the cassette player and the classic Chanel black and white scheme this a sure investment; the classic clutch with the Chanel chain has been ironically updated. It even comes in both the black colour and a clear plastic; so if you were to go for clear you’d have to be careful what you put in it- everyone could see your bags contents!

Killer heels... Literally

Don’t think the term ‘killer heels’ will ever be the same ever again

Love this......

Found this on twitter but so true! 2012….

Curly updo

Although I love my long hair, I want it cut and torn as to how to have it. I love short hair but in the summer I love my longer locks all wavy. As soon as I decide and pluck up the courage to face the chop I will upload some photo's.

My sister has shorter hair which she is trying to grow now. This morning she spent hours on her day off curling her hair. He then pinned it all back in a curly ponytail and swept her fringe across. It looked really pretty and for shorter hair a great way to do curly in a fashion-forward way.

Having longer hair I can’t really do a style like this as well as my hair is too thick the ponytail wouldn’t pin as well; plus I am far too impatient to curl all of my hair!

Excuse the mess in these pictures..... My sister's room!

Wardrobe raiding!

The joys of being home from uni….. home-cooked meals, washing done and of course being able to raid my Mum’s wardrobe!!

On my latest raid I managed to find this little beauty…..

It’s just a simple skirt that I love with a button detailing to the front (however this does not actually undo). The skirt print of little flowers is in a classic colour scheme making this little number one you could never go wrong with. Ideal for little casual days in summer to be worn with flip flops and a plain vest or dressed up with killer heels and perhaps even a plain black blazer.

2011 saw denim jackets really on trend but I could never find one in any shops that I loved as much as my Mum’s old one. Its baggy style goes well teamed with fitted dresses or girly outfits to add a twist to the look. The stone-washed colour is a perfect match to go with everything.

My mum had a little love for black velvet it seems, maybe that’s where I get it from. I found this little Dorothy Perkins beauty hiding in the back of her wardrobe. It has a black lace top with a velvet body-con style layer over the top. As worn in the picture below I would contrast the black with my red heels.

Fashion goes round in circles. My mum has such a cute little tie up top.

From Miss Selfridge, the dress buttons up and has a pocket detailing on it. Again the black and white check pattern doesn’t fail to go out of fashion as it is so classic. I really like it and goes well with a cute little pair of denim shorts or even this season’s must-have of coloured jeans.

I also found these shorts. My mum had them made especially for her for her 18th birthday. The green hot-pants are amazing; although so tiny!!!! I didn’t want to try and squeeze into them because they are so special to her. The shorts have a pinking shear edge to them instead of hemmed which I think makes them even more cool.

Channelling the Inner Princess

Remember the days of pretending you were the princess; dreaming of your own ‘happy ever after’?

Inspired by the Disney princesses from including Rapunzel to Snow White to Belle; Alfred Angelo and his wife; Edythe Piccione set up their bridal label; in the mid-1930s with the intention to make ‘dreams come true’ on one of the biggest days of many ladies lives. Today the company continues to have international success within the bridal industry.

The latest collection is absolutely beautiful; the dresses actually took my breath away and gave me little butterflies and goosebumps.

As a child growing up Cinderella was always my favourite; although I did love Sleeping Beauty (because she wore a pink dress) and the Cinderella dress of Collection 1 (Style 205) is stunning.

This particular dress designed with Cinderella’s glass slipper in mind has sparkling crystal beading and rhinestones on it. The dress made of tulle and glitter net over taffeta has a draped criss-cross bodice, sweetheart neckline and semi-cathedral train. I think it is so beautiful because it has such intricate detailing without being too over-the-top and I love the fitted bodice but full skirt style.

The dresses are a credit to the designers; as so much thought has gone into the gowns. For instance the Ariel (Style 210) of Collection 1; the cascading ruffles of Taffeta and Satin Organza mirror the oceans waves that Ariel calls home. The decorated one shoulder design creates a splash and the soft, floatly style reflects the rhythm of the sea.

Another of my favourites is the Special Addition Rapunzel Dress of Collection 2 (Style 208).

This gown has little satin petals sewn to the dress on the one-shoulder and from the waist down that have a three-dimensional style. The bodice which is pleated also has a sweetheart neckline and the back laces up giving the dress an air of sexiness. This dress with the Chapel train is so elegant and the petals give it that floaty feel; perfect for a laid-back princess. Again, the design looks so well-made and follows the shape and natural curves of a woman so well; it is a beautiful design and deserves its spot at Kensington Palace in London for Rapunzel’s Royal Celebration.

I also love the Snow White dress (Style 207) of Collection 1. It’s amazing dress with bow detail to the back finishes the dress perfectly. The strapless bodice decorated beautifully with little flowers finished with crystals and rhinestones in the centre is breath-taking as is the beautiful skirt with an organza overlay that is also embroidered.

And with a slogan like “Dreams come true” and the comment “Your Fairytale Awaits” the collection would swoon anyone. They are beautifully made and such thought is behind them; you would definitely feel like a princess in one.
